What a waste of money. Holding a referendum on creating a Plymouth City Mayor would cost £410,000 – even though the government has pledged to scrap city mayors in the upcoming English devolution bill.
A Plymouth city mayor would burn £1.5m a year of your money on a new politician with a whopping £80k paycheck – with no new powers or funding for our city.
Torbay and Bristol have already scrapped city mayors because they increase bureaucracy and take away attention and money from things that really matter, like building houses and growing the economy.
