Luke Pollard MP Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport
Today, Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn announced that Labour wants to see a public vote on Brexit. He also announced that Labour would campaign to remain in the European Union in that referendum.
Luke Pollard MP said:
“Brexit is a mess. The risk of leaving the EU without a deal is growing every day and more and more people want to have their say on Brexit. That is why I have been vocal in calling for a public vote and clear that I want Labour to campaign for remain.
“I want everyone to have their say on Brexit because whether you still want to leave the EU or you want to stay in the EU you deserve to have your say.
“Thank you to all the people who have encouraged me to push for a public vote and for Labour to campaign for remain. I have pushed my leadership hard and made the case for the people of Plymouth to have the final say rather than MPs in Westminster. There is a fight to be won to stop no deal now and to get a public vote. I am very pleased Labour is now in the right place – it has taken too long to get here – but I am glad we are now where we should always have been: fighting a hard right Brexit that would damage living standards, put jobs at risk and risk our environmental protections. I’m proud to be British, proud to be European and proud to be campaigning for this Brexit mess to be brought to an end.”
Luke has held nine open public meetings attended by over 1,100 people since he was elected to listen to people’s views about Brexit. You can find out more about Luke’s Brexit summits here.
