I have launched Homes Fit for Heroes, a Labour campaign to highlight the poor state of armed forces accommodation.

Conservative Ministers are failing in their duty to our forces, who are living in shameful conditions while serving our country. Many of our armed forces community are having to put up with broken boilers, water pouring into homes, mould, vermin and endless waits for basic repairs.

They deserve better than this.

That is why the Homes Fit for Heroes campaign is asking forces and their families to share their experiences of defence housing with Labour via our dedicated website (https://labour.org.uk/homesfitforheroes) – including inviting them to submit any relevant photographs and videos.

All materials submitted will be dealt with confidentially and the name and rank of personnel will not be shared to protect those who submit evidence of poor accommodation.

Labour’s dossier on service accommodation will be submitted as evidence to the independent Kerslake Review on the state of armed forces housing. The findings of the review will inform Labour’s offer on improving the lives of serving personnel after the next election.

Armed forces personnel and their families should be able to rely on having a decent home as part of their service of contract – the next Labour government will deliver the homes fit for heroes our forces deserve.
