Luke Pollard MP Labour & Co-op Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton & Devonport

In todays debate on conversion therapy, I made the case for a trans and non-binary inclusive ban on conversion therapy. Conversion therapy is cruel and abhorrent. We must not divide LGBT between those worthy of protection and those not, we need equality and inclusivity.
At the end of debate, I pressed the Minister on whether the Bill he plans to bring forward would be amendable so MPs would be able to vote to include trans and non-binary people within the ban. I will be voting for amendments to ensure trans and non-binary people are fully protected from conversion therapy.
I am so pleased that young people in school not only have LGBT people in the public eye, but they can see them on screen as well. I am an unapologetic fan of the Netflix series Heartstopper and I remember being both Nick and Charlie at school. For me, its the class and visibility of Yasmin Finney as a trans actor who has inspired me and has inspired young trans people across the world. That visibility has changed and saved many lives.
Regardless of who you are and who you love, you have the right to be loved. You have the right to be safe and you have the right to be valued not only by society, but in the law as well!
You are enough! We are listening and we value you.
