Labour Shadow Cabinet at the manifesto launch
🌹 Today Labour published a manifesto to deliver the change Britain needs.

This is a manifesto of fully costed, fully funded set of policies that will give people in Plymouth and across the country a fresh start after 14 years of Conservative failure.

Here are six key takeaways:

1. Economic growth: Getting the economy moving creates good jobs and funds our public services. It’s why it’s Labour’s number one priority.

2. Repairing our NHS: From endless waits at Derriford Hospital to an NHS dentistry waiting list that lasts for years, it’s no secret that healthcare in Plymouth is broken. Labour will cut NHS waiting times with 40,000 more appointments each week and provide 700,000 more urgent dental appointments.

3. Strengthening our Armed Forces: Plymouth is home to a proud Armed Forces community. Labour’s manifesto sets our total commitment to the UK’s nuclear deterrent, spending 2.5% of GDP on defence and establishing an independent Armed Forces Commissioner to improve service life.

4. Breaking down barriers to opportunity: Transforming our education and childcare services is vital for people in Plymouth getting the opportunities they deserve – regardless of background. Labour’s plans include recruiting 6,500 new expert teachers in key subjects and creating tens of thousands of extra childcare places through 3,000 new primary school-based nurseries.

5. Delivering safer streets: People in Plymouth want to feel safe in their communities. That’s why Labour will restore neighbourhood policing with thousands of extra officers to crack down on antisocial behaviour, introduce tough new penalties for offenders and work to halve violence against women and girls in a decade.

6. Building the homes we need: We need to build more homes in Plymouth. Labour will get Britain building again, with our pledge to build 1.5 million new homes over the next Parliament and restore mandatory housing targets.

There is much more in the manifesto, including making the UK a clean energy superpower, modernising our transport infrastructure and restoring Britain’s leadership on the world stage, to name a few.
