Jeremy Hunt
Jeremy Hunt's budget is bad news for Plymouth

Jeremy Hunt’s announcement today means that people in Plymouth will be paying more in tax and getting fewer public services in return.

He’s just announced £50 billion in tax rises and public sector cuts.

And why? Because Liz Truss crashed the economy, leaving a gaping hole in public finances. And because the Tories have failed to grow the economy since coming to power in 2010.

It’s time for a General Election. The Tories have run out of ideas and have no one to blame for this mess than themselves.

Labour would make fairer choices, raising billions by clamping down on tax loopholes for non-doms and millionaires. And we’d raise even more by tightening the get-out clauses on the oil and gas giants in the windfall tax that Hunt announced today. Working people shouldn’t be left to pick up the tab for this government’s economic mismanagement.

And we would unleash growth with our Green Prosperity Plan. From the builders and plumbers needed to insulate homes, to engineers and operators for new nuclear power and windfarms, our plan will create jobs and opportunity.

The choice is clear. Britain deserves better than the Conservatives.
