I’ve launched a £2,000 fundraiser with Plymouth Foodbank, aiming to buy 100 electric blankets for families struggling to afford their heating.

The bleak reality is, many families in Plymouth won’t turn their heating on this winter because they simply cannot afford their bills.

We’re aiming to raise enough in donations to purchase 100 electric blankets – which are much cheaper to run than central heating. Typical gas central heating costs £6.76 to run over a six hour period, whereas electric blankets cost just 20p to run over the same time period of time.

In a rich country like Britain, we should not need fundraising campaigns like this. But I simply cannot stand by and do nothing when faced with such a crisis.

We are continuing to fundraise until 18 January 2023. Every donation is much appreciated, and you can visit our Crowdfunder page here:

On 25 November, I dropped into Plymouth Foodbank to launch the fundraiser and donate the first electric blanket.
