Luke Pollard MP Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport

This week, British sugar confirmed that neonicotinoids will be used again this year on sugar beet crop.
This is terrible news for bees. These bee-killing pesticides have been entirely banned in the EU for their harmful effect on bees and pollinating insects.
I bloody love bees. They are absolutely essential for the pollination of nature but they’re habitats are under threat.
Last month, I held a debate in Parliament on the Government allowing the continued use of bee-killing pesticides. It’s disgusting that for the third year running, the Conservative Government has authorised the use of the use of these bee-killing pesticides on our crops and farms.
The next Labour Government will ban the use of neonicotinoids and save our bees from more harm. If we have any chance of protecting our natural environment, making sure we all have enough food to eat, and tackling the climate and nature emergency, then the health of our bees is non-negotiable.
