Luke Pollard MP Labour & Co-op Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton & Devonport
Holocaust Memorial Day this year marks 80 years since the liberation of the infamous former Nazi concentration and death camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, in 1945.
Today presents an important opportunity for people from Plymouth to reflect on the darkest times of European history. I pledge to remember the six million Jewish men, women and children who were murdered in the Holocaust and to speak out against all forms of antisemitism, which in recent months has risen exponentially and which needs to be tackled head on. I remember all those killed by the Nazis including LGBT people, trade unionists and other groups persecuted by the fascist regime.
As the number of survivors of the Holocaust dwindles I pledge to keep their stories alive so this evil can never be repeated. Today we also remember all those killed in genocides since the Holocaust.
In Parliament today I signed the book of remembrance as I have done every year since being elected.
