Responding to the news that Plymouth will enter Tier 2 restrictions, Luke Pollard said:

“Plymouth must not stay in Tier 2 a moment longer than we have to. I want to see our Tier 2 status reviewed in a fortnight with a clear plan how we can get back to Tier 1. The three tier system did not work last time and it must not be a slow conveyer belt into tougher restrictions again.

“Our city’s hospitality businesses face a grim future. I am very concerned about rising unemployment and huge increases in poverty in our city. That’s why we need proper support for those businesses and greater help for those losing their jobs.

“People in Plymouth has worked so hard to slow the spread of the virus – thank you. Now, we have to continue driving down the virus so our city can get to tier 1. I will keep pressing Ministers to give our city the help we deserve.”

“It’s disappointing that the Government has lumped Plymouth into Devon when they list unitary authorities separately in other areas. Plymouth is our own council area – we are not part of Devon Council. This is not hugely confidence inspiring.”
