  • Scotland’s highest court declares Boris Johnson’s decision to shut down Parliament “unlawful”

Luke Pollard has today called for Parliament to be recalled after a court ruled that Boris Johnson’s decision to shut down Parliament was unlawful. The decision made by Scotland’s highest court means that the Government’s decision to shut down Parliament for its longest prorogation in decades is now in question.

Commenting, Plymouth Labour MP, Luke Pollard said:

“Parliament should now be urgently recalled so the people’s representatives can decide what happens next. Brexit is a mess and Boris Johnson’s undemocratic actions have been found to be unlawful. It cannot be right that any Prime Minister can shut down our democracy for as long as they like in the middle of a national crisis.”

“Parliament’s doors are closed and scrutiny limited to media soundbites. When we face so many urgent crises from the NHS crisis, to the school funding crisis to the climate crisis and the Brexit crisis we need Parliament open and operational.”
