Luke Pollard MP Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport
- The Queen today gave her speech, opening Parliament and setting out the government’s agenda
- The speech focussed on Brexit, the NHS and immigration
- Luke has given his reaction
Luke Pollard, MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport said:
The Queen’s Speech will do little to help those Plymouth families who are struggling to pay bills and afford presents for their children this Christmas.
The Government’s legislative programme is big on headlines but weak on detail. One area I’m especially disappointed in is the lack of urgent action on the climate emergency. Warm words won’t cut carbon and that’s why we need bold and swift action to cut carbon emissions.
Now the Tories have won seats in the north of England and the Midlands I fear money will be diverted away from the south west to fund new projects in these recently Tory areas. There is little in the Queen’s Speech that will fund public services fairly in the south west. I will keep pushing for our fair share of funding as the bills in the Queen’s Speech are scrutinised.
