Luke Pollard has welcomed the successful bid made by Plymouth City Council, Plymouth University and Urban Splash to the Government’s Future High Streets Fund to overhaul high streets and city centres.

The bid was designed to overhaul the Civic Centre and Plymouth Guildhall helping to create new homes, a new city centre conference venue and more modern facilities for events in the very heart of Plymouth city centre.

Luke said:

“Plymouth’s bid was a high quality offer to transform the old Civic Centre and Plymouth Guildhall into a real attraction creating new jobs, homes and opportunities. I am pleased that Plymouth won £12million in this bid. This was only two thirds of what we bid for so it was a shame Ministers did not fully fund our bid, but it will give us the funding boost to get this project started.

I was really pleased to have supported this bid and pressed Ministers to support it. Congratulations to everyone behind the bid – it really will breathe new life back into the heart of our post-war city centre.”
