Luke is seeking volunteers from across Plymouth to collaborate on a Covid Memorial Quilt. It is intended to be a creative opportunity to share, connect and preserve the community’s experiences of Covid-19 and lockdown.

If you would like to create your own square, email luke.pollard.mp@parliament.uk for further information. You will need to cut out a 12 by 12 inch square of fabric of your choice, ideally cotton or calico. If you don’t have fabric that you can reuse at home, there is a haberdashery shop on Armada Way. Plan an original design that captures your memories of Covid-19 and lockdown. Feel free to experiment with embroidery, fabric paint, written words or any other medium. Remember to leave at least a 0.5” border that will be utilised as part of the quilting process.

We would also appreciate it if you would consider writing a couple of sentences down about your square on a separate piece of paper. This might include a bit about yourself, why you chose your design or how you have found the past year. Once you’re done, please post your square and statement to the constituency office: Luke Pollard MP, 13 Frankfort Gate, Plymouth, PL1 1QA.

The Covid Memorial Quilt will be displayed later this year alongside the collection of statements.

Luke Pollard MP said:

“The pandemic has shown us what matters to each of us: family, friends, health and nature. I want to invite people in Plymouth to join me for a moment of remembrance to those we lost and to thank those key workers, neighbours, friends and strangers who stepped up to help us in our moment of need. The Plymouth COVID quilt will be a chance to put our thanks in physical form and I encourage people to get their sowing kits out.”
