Luke Pollard MP Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport

Attending a demonstration with Humane Society International outside Parliament today, Luke criticised the government for dropping its plans to ban foie gras and fur imports.
The Conservatives promised during the last election that they would make the UK a world-leader on animal welfare. Yet, following pressure from Jacob Rees-Mogg and other cabinet ministers, the government is now expected to shelve provisions in the Animal Welfare Bill relating to a ban on fur and foie gras imports.
Luke said:
It stinks that the Government has u-turned on their promise to ban foie gras and fur imports. The Prime Minister has broken his promise to strengthen animal welfare legislation in this country, and that’s not good enough. I support a Britain free from fur and foie gras.
