Luke Pollard MP Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport
I have been contacted by many parents who are concerned about the announced closure of Playbox preschool in Peverell.
I fully recognise the vital role of early years educators and I believe that all those who work in the sector deserve recognition, gratitude and support for their work. The sector has had a particularly challenging couple of years through the pandemic and too often this area has been an afterthought for the Government in terms of offering support.
The pandemic has shone a light on the fragility of the early years sector and forced struggling nurseries, preschools and childminders to shut down. We cannot afford for any more to close, but I am concerned this is exactly what will happen without better support. Many nurseries have closed across the city in recent years, so many will sympathise with what parents in Peverell are going through.
I am keen to understand if there is anything I can do to help here and have already made some enquiries with Plymouth City Council as to what steps have been taken to support Playbox staff, parents and children at this difficult time, as well as reaching out to Playbox themselves to offer support.
If you are affected by this closure, please do not hesitate to contact my team on firstname.lastname@example.org so I can keep you updated on the enquiries and support staff and parents throughout this difficult time.
