11 July is the UK National Srebrenica Memorial Day where we remember the thousands of people killed in the genocide in Srebrenica in 1995.

Events will take place across the country to remember those killed by Bosnian Serb forces in 1995, including 800 children.

I attended a memorial event yesterday evening at Lancaster House, the diplomatic centre run by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, opposite Buckingham Palace. The event was attended by the Bosnian President, HE President Denis Becirovic, and survivors of the violence in Bosnia in the 1990s also spoke.

We say “never again” often about genocides but they keep happening. Again today we are seeing war crimes being committed by the Russians in their criminal invasion of Ukraine. We must remember those lost and do all we can to stop such bloodshed now and in the future.
