You have probably heard the bad news: Britain is now officially in recession. So much for Rishi Sunak’s pledge to grow the economy.

But what does Rishi’s recession mean for us here in Plymouth? Fewer jobs, lower incomes and worse living standards are all likely.

That’s on top of inflation and the cost-of-living crisis. I cannot help but think of the local businesses in Plymouth who tell me they are already struggling to stay afloat, or the hardworking families who are turning to food banks in record numbers as their bills rocket.

Plymouth desperately wants and needs change, like the rest of the country. By-elections in Kingswood and Wellingborough made that crystal clear this week.

You may have seen business leaders rallying behind Labour’s strategy to get our economy back on track, including our plan to deliver more jobs, more investment and cheaper bills.

We need change. Only a Labour government will deliver it.
