This month I was pleased to meet with Climate Action Plymouth to discuss Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan and the practical measures the party will take to reach net zero in government.

Labour will be fighting the election with a world-leading agenda on climate and energy. A number of policies have already been announced in our commitment to deliver clean power by 2030:

  • Great British Energy
  • A National Wealth Fund
  • A Warm Homes Plan
  • A British Jobs Bonus
  • A Local Power Plan
  • No new oil and gas licenses.

We agreed we need to act faster and do more to tackle climate change, which means acting now to lay the foundation blocks for long term, sustainable growth.

Climate Action Plymouth raised questions about national and regional investments, nuclear power affordable warm homes. I think home insulation is a great first step in fighting back climate change on a micro-level. Efficient insulation and ventilation – especially in local marine environments – should be implemented when building and renovating homes.

Under Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan, which remains central in our mission to grow the economy and deliver clean power by 2030, we discussed the party’s plans to cut people’s energy bills by up to £500 through insulating five million homes.

We both also agreed there is an urgent need to develop skills in in order to build a workforce that will be equipped to effectively fight climate change.
