I am writing to thank you for your patience, understanding and co-operation over the discovery of the unexploded Second World War bomb in Keyham.

Our community has been through so much in the past few years. I am enormously proud of the way Plymouth stepped up to help Keyham, especially in supporting those who were evacuated from their homes for some time.

As your MP, I have thanked the military, police, City Council and the ward councillors for their efforts. I also want to understand your experience. I am keen that the voices of local people are heard and that any lessons – reflecting positive and negative experiences – are properly captured.

Devon has seen two large bombs discovered in recent years, which is very unusual. That is why I am especially keen to understand what help and support residents valued and appreciated as well as issues of concern so it can be shared with any community experiencing an evacuation in the future.

I realise the cordon, police presence and media glare may have brought back memories of what happened in our community in August 2021. Help is still available. You can access Livewell’s NHS Talking Therapies Plymouth on 01752 435419. Lines are open Monday to Friday 9pm to 5pm.

In recent years our community has come together, and that resilience was on show again with the bomb. Thank you for looking after one another and following instructions despite the considerable disruption.

You can pass details of your experiences to me or one of your councillors – click here to find their contact details. My contact details are luke.pollard.mp@parliament.uk or call 01752 717255.

My office on Frankfort Gate is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm, if you would like to drop in and speak to my team. Please let me know if I can help.
